The UK's Grand Outdoor Summer Cafe

Let’s revive the UK’s hospitality industry and transform our streets and open spaces  into a Grand Summer Outdoor Cafe

The first stage of our campaign  was to get  independent hospitality operators and those with multiple venues  on board, we now have over 70 .  We then sent an open letter to Alok Sharma, the Minister for Business, to ask the Govt. to allow local authorities to permit hospitality operators to use our open spaces and squares outside their venues to serve food and drinks.

We are thrilled that Robert Jenrick, the Local Government Minister,  listened to our proposal.   In the Sunday Telegraph 17th May  he was reported as saying that  ” he is considering a “blanket permission” for restaurants and cafes to use squares or pedestrianised streets for chairs and tables”

Operators across the UK and the world are desperate to get back to doing what they do best – caring for people and serving top quality food and drink to their loyal customers.

The first part of our campaign has succeeded, we now want to move on to the fun part.

We now need to raise money by asking the public to donate money to provide our amazing frontline workers with food and drink vouchers that can be used at the Grand Summer Outdoor Cafe. They deserve our thanks.

Please give what you can on our Just Giving Page.

How are we supporting our front line workers?

As part of The UK Grand Summer Outdoor Cafe we're fundraising for Food and Drinks vouchers, so our heroes working on the frontline will be able to enjoy some free and well earned wonderful moments with us at The UK Grand Summer Outdoor Cafe.

How will we issue vouchers?

Our dining and drinks vouchers, will be distributed through the leading marketing technology company EagleEye. Money raised towards vouchers will be reimbursed to operators at face value, driving footfall traffic as well as sales, and increasing customer confidence to visit.

How will it work?

We're proposing a similar idea that is working in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania,
which has opened seating outdoors on the pavements, streets and squares outside of restaurants and bars, allowing the public
to enjoy physically distanced meals and drinks.

"I've raised this with DCMS and BEIS this week to see if we can take this forward."

Kate Nicholls, UK Hospitality Tweet

"We are hoping to create a temporary ceasefire between councils, hospitality operators and our neighbours. In the present system we have outdoor battle lines drawn by councils that operators must defend each year, rightly giving neighbours the right to object to the sound of merriment below their windows. Let's create a summertime truce, let us come together, re-emerge safely and thank the frontline that we are alive. The Govt. can make this happen at no cost and with goodwill from councils, hospitality and neighbours we can enjoy the summer and bring our towns and villages slowly and safely back to life. "
